SCCM Engineer

Knutsford, Cheshire

Initial 3 months

The candidate will be joining the SCCM Deployments Infrastructure team which is within Desktop Services, this area provides engineering support, delivery of enhancements and service changes across all supported desktop environments, specifically in this case across the software deployment and packaging capabilities, including SCCM.

The team aim to pro-actively improve the environment through monitoring and automation, engineering of product enhancements / upgrades and working to ensure our desktop technologies continue to underpin the growth of the business as a whole.

Key Responsibilities

The role holder is responsible for managing a number of aspects:

  • SCCM Infrastructure Support - Ensure service availability of components that make up the software deployments services across the bank.
  • Engineering - Designing and delivering technical solutions that can be progressed through to implementation in to production. This could be supporting service improvements, problem management and providing product enhancements / fixes to known issues, operational maintenance of the infrastructure / product or delivering product upgrades. The engineering aspect of the role also includes producing technical documentation, product comparisons and analysis, test scripts to demonstrate requirements are met etc.
  • Vendor Engagement - Collaborate with vendors to maintain product support and stability for the existing environments and where possible implement best practice / optimal technology solutions, also working to ensure they remain up to date on product features / capabilities
  • Product Lifecycle - Assess future product changes for suitability against the business and user requirements and provide engineering expertise to support the Lifecycle Management decision making and change delivery process

Skills Required:

  • SCCM 2012 / SCCM 2007
  • Windows Server 2008/2012
  • Non-Microsoft Configuration Management, automated provisioning and deployment systems and technology i.e., Adaptiva Onesite & GreenPlanet, 1E Nomad/Nightwatchman
  • Asset Management
  • Citrix and Virtual Application deployment/management
  • User Migration, Client Migration and Server Migration tooling
  • Scripting
  • Capacity planning
  • MS SQL Server

Knowledge of the following is beneficial:

  • IIS
  • Virtualisation technologies especially VMWare ESX
  • Windows security - IPSEC, GPOs, Antivirus, patching, endpoint security. Knowledge of PointSec, PGP, Symantec End Point protection (SEP)
  • LAN/WAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, DMZ and routing
  • Streaming technologies
  • Citrix/Xenapp
  • HP hardware (Blades/rack mounted servers, enclosures)
  • Effective verbal, written and presentational skills are essential.
  • Ability to complete work quickly and to a high standard.
  • Ability to work alone with little supervision but is also a good team player.
  • Effective approach to problem investigation and resolution.
  • Strong analytical ability to develop complex software distribution solutions.
  • Proven ability to learn new skills
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Experience of working in a large IT organization.
  • Good knowledge of strategic software deployment toolsets and software deployment processes
  • Experience of packaging procedures and best practice
  • Manage workload effectively and prioritize tasks during rapidly changing priorities and schedules.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills and able to transfer skills and knowledge to other team members.
  • Ability to rapidly assimilate technical knowledge.
  • A willingness to develop additional skills in order to enable more flexible working within the organization.
  • A general awareness of current IT development and live systems, the Bank's architectures and strategies and computing trends.
