Our TV/Broadcasting client are currently seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join their Osterley, West London based team on an initial 6 month contract.

What you will be doing;

  • Real time data processing and RESTful microservices in Scala (Finch, Spray/Akka HTTP and Play).
  • Helping develop the in-house recommendation engine which uses Kafka, Spark Streaming and Cassandra.
  • Looking into how our recommendation engine can evolve with machine learning.
  • Having the freedom to self-organise as part of a cross functional agile team.
  • Refining the team processes to continuously integrate and working towards a continuously deliverable application.
  • Championing best practices such as Pair Programming and TDD in order to develop clean, resilient code that performs at serious scale.
  • Coaching and providing feedback to fellow developers.

How will you be doing this?

  • Challenge technical choices, architecture, tools and processes.
  • Review code and give feedback that makes your team even better.
  • Work in a motivated team, empowered to meet ambitious goals.
  • Actively improve overall software quality.
  • Contribute towards the client's internal and external open source applications.

What a day in the office might look like

On the way in, you can grab a coffee or some breakfast from one of our numerous (subsidised!) restaurants or coffee shops. Get to your desk and find out what is going on in our technology communities before joining the team stand up. Join your team and pick up the card you will be focusing on for that day.

At lunch you have a few options, you can either visit our rooftop Pizza restaurant for a team lunch, head to the onsite gym for a quick workout or join your community lunchtime meetup … the choice is yours. Once lunch is over, rejoin your pair to continue with the feature you were working on.

Mid-afternoon the team might decide to nip out for a coffee break, before the team retrospective at the end of the day.

What your team setup will be like

You will be working in a team with other sharp developers and your team is complemented by a Scrum Master and a Product Owner.
