SC Cleared Solution Architect BristolInitial 6 months Role Description:Individuals will work with customers, business development and bid teams to develop requirements, solution concepts, and technical proposals and estimates.This entails working in the problem and solution spaces, considering the feasibility of addressing the problem, and achieving a balance between problem and solution considerations. Addresses enterprise and lifecycle considerations, and devises and coordinates a suitable engineering solution integrating systems engineering and other technical and management (e.g. project management) disciplines.Employs approaches including planning, multi-disciplinary systems engineering, concurrent engineering, the integration of engineering specialisms (e.g. safety), and 'soft skills' (such as team building), to ensure that safe, effective and efficient processes are applied.Ideally the candidate will already have SC Clearance. Key Capabilities/Knowledge:Leadership of technical bid teams throughout the concept generation phase, requiring delivery of complex solutions to a range of demanding customersGood problem-solving ability through the application of conceptual, creative and innovative thinking to devise suitable and/or novel solutionsA solid understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and its implementationUnderstands the operational environment and underlying domain specific issuesUnderstand possible problems and has ideas for overcoming barriersUnderstanding of different systems engineering methods, their applicability, and effectAble to understand the contribution of, and engage with, other relevant technical disciplines to devise holistic solutionsUnderstanding of business/enterprise impact and dependencies of workUnderstanding of technical implications of proposed solution including on other processesAble to ensure that customer needs and expectations are addressed and/or satisfiedAble to identify, conceive, review, and judge the suitability of systems solutionsAble to manage multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders whilst building and maintaining excellent relationships.Good negotiation and presentation skillsAbility to communicate effectively with people at all levels across the department, business, and externally with customers, suppliers and other stakeholdersAn understanding of the application of systems engineering to different domains.Key accountabilities:Working closely with the project manager to plan and deliver (generally through a team) all the pre-bid technical/engineering activities required to meet business winning objectivesDevising of solution concepts which capture the problem to be solved and/or essential features (form, structure, characteristics, principles) of the outline solutionResponsible for devising the technical solution using sound technical, management and leadership skills such as systems engineering management and project managementCo-ordinates the high-level engineering activities as applicable to the opportunityAddresses enterprise and lifecycle considerationsEngaging with customers, other stakeholders, suppliers, and other technical disciplines to help develop an appropriate understanding of the problem and to form the bases of viable solutionsInternal and external focal point of contact for the opportunity on all technical/engineering aspects and assuranceIdentifying the technical risks and opportunities on behalf of the bid managerEnsuring that the solution meets appropriate regulatory, legal, safety and other engineering requirements and standards.Desirable Qualifications:MSc level qualification or equivalent CEng or equivalent9-13 years plus relevant experience in engineering/systems engineering.SC Clearance Specific Domain Knowledge:Has significant and current knowledge of the following areas and is taking active steps to sustain and extend this knowledge:Knowledge of Strategic Communications and/or Public Sector domainsKnowledge of solution technologies and applicable processes for Solution ArchitectsKnowledge of general engineering considerations.
