Service Desk Support Engineer with experience with Windows 7, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, Powershell, SQL and Microsoft Server experiences required for a SC Cleared permanent role in Huntingdon.

The client is a growing defence consultancy providing services to a top MOD provider in Huntingdon and due to consistent growth on the client site they are looking to on-board a candidate that can add value across the board. The purpose of the role is to be responsible for prioritising incidents, Service Requests and where appropriate assigning to resolver groups. This position includes a secondary role of active participation in resolution of software faults as a resolver and on occasion providing cover for the hardware engineer in their absence.

Responsibilities:

The Service Desk Engineer shall be responsible for providing Tier 1 Service Desk support to agreed Service Levels and shall assist in meeting Tier 2 software related KPIs. The Service Desk Engineer shall have a secondary role as a Tier 2 software resolver.

The Service Desk Engineer shall be responsible for ensuring that the Service Desk tool is maintained so that all problem and change management can be conducted through the Service Desk tool.

Responding to events as follows:

  • Will resolve agreed service requests that are included in the knowledge base.
  • Assign all other incidents, service requests and change requests to resolver groups.

  • Experience of working on a Service Desk (Service Desk + experience preferred) and responding effectively to incidents.
  • Good written and oral communication skills as the central point of contact for service delivery.
  • Experience of software maintenance and support to include servers, workstations, laptops, network and peripheral devices.
  • Experience in the installation and configuration of Microsoft Server 2008/2012 and Windows 7 workstations.
  • Good Knowledge of the configuration and installation of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) software applications.
  • Good knowledge of windows domain architectures, Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS.
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell.
  • Experience of Network setup and configuration.
  • Experience in hardware maintenance of IT systems and printers.
  • Experience in the installation and configuration of RAID storage sub-systems.

Essential Experience:

Desirable:

  • Good knowledge of SQL Server 2008.
  • Knowledge of GIS software.
  • Knowledge of installation and configuration of virtualisation technologies.
  • Configure Microsoft SharePoint and FTP web sites.
  • Defence experience
