Safety manager - £47,000 + benefits - FTSE 100 Engineering Organisation

I am recruiting on behalf of a FTSE 100 Engineering Organization and market leader in providing engineering support to the MOD. We are currently looking for an experienced health and safety manager to work on site at the naval base and be instrumental in developing a positive health and safety culture across the site.

Main Purpose of Role

  • Accountability for the provision of a Safety Improvement Programme with specific focus on Human Factors
  • Developing and implementing the Programme to improve the safety performance at HMNB Clyde
  • Working with Senior Management and business area leads to ensure a collaborative approach both within the HSE function and wider business areas identifying key safety challenges and in collaboration with Department Management tailor output to drive continuous improvement.
  • Providing leadership in regards to Safety Improvement by engaging and inspiring key stakeholders to drive change in their areas of responsibility
  • Implement Safety Improvement measures and report value delivered back to the business from the improvement programme
  • Identifying and monitoring those policies, procedures and programmes at HMNB Clyde relevant to the Safety Improvement function to ensure deliverables support these
  • Identify best practice within both the wider business and industry that could benefit the Safety Improvement Programme at Clyde and provide recommendations for the implementation at HMNB Clyde
  • Promote and lead the expansion of continuous safety improvement knowledge and application in all areas of business
  • Align the safety improvement deliverables with other key functions including; Health and Safety, Operator Experience and Learning and Development, ensuring a lifecycle approach to safety improvement
  • Lead the Health and Safety Campaign and Communications Plan ensuring it captures all the elements relative to safety improvement and that output is aligned with and supports organisational needs identified through legislative updates and trending analysis.

Applicants will have:

  • A thorough understanding of legal and statutory frameworks relevant to HSE
  • Continuous improvement and problem solving tools and techniques
  • Proactive Change Management processes required to lead a cultural change and transformation programme
  • Understanding of presentation, communication and training techniques to varied audiences and demonstrable experience of delivering these at the highest quality
  • Commercial understanding of how safety improvement can influence organisation bottom line
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of effective and inspiring communication tools
  • Demonstrable experience of inspiring and motivating teams to achieve safety improvements
