Risk Manager

RISK MANAGEMENT, MoR, IRM, PPM PROFESSIONAL, RAID

Permanent position based in Croydon.

The Risk Manager is a critical role providing a strategic view of risks, embedding risk management processes and ensuring senior level reporting of risks to facilitate effective decision making. The role will support the head of risk & knowledge management in embedding effective risk management governance across the organisation.

You will act as a risk champion, providing subject expertise and quality assurance to support each function, iterating the approach to meet the circumstances and enabling SMT to make informed decisions.

You will support the Head of Risk Management and the Chief Operating Officer in building the overall capability of the team, and helping to raise the maturity of the service offering across the Directorate.

Essential Criteria

  • Risk management experience, ideally in a Digital, Data and Technology environment within government, at portfolio and programme level
  • Hands on pre-emptive RAID management experience, such as monitoring and updating risk registers
  • Ability to establish and quantify 'risk appetite' and demonstrable experience in offering proactive and reactive guidance on all areas of risk management
  • Proven analytical ability - highly organised and able to challenge stakeholders in a firm but constructive manner
  • A background in risk/ audit, knowledge of government regulatory environment and knowledge of compliance standards across organisational functions (operations, corporate governance, finance)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills - influencing demanding internal/external stakeholders, large and complex project teams and contractors
  • Experience of leading and developing teams - including the ability to coach and mentor others
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - demonstrating the ability to produce nontechnical reports for senior management and present reports and recommendations at Board level.
  • Logistical approach to managing complex processes
  • Good facilitation techniques - experience of using these to facilitate workshops

Desirable Experience

  • Qualification in risk management, such as MoR, IRM etc.
  • PPM professional
