Job description/Person specification

QinetiQ are looking to appoint an experienced RF Communications Technician to deliver specialist Communications operations and maintenance support for the Shore Integration Facility (SIF) and associated Combat Systems Equipment under MOD contract controlled by QinetiQ.

As part of a team of 3 hands on technical engineers, you will be involved in the configuration & maintenance of internal and external Naval Communication Systems fitted to RN/RFA vessels. This includes but is not limited to:

- Royal Naval Communication (ICS6 systems)
- BOWMAN radio systems
- Satellite Communications systems (SCOT5)
- Cryptographic devices

As a proactive 'hands on' technician, you will be able to work both independently and as part of the SIF specialist maintenance team. Due to the variety of systems you will be accountable for, we are looking for applicants to have a broad technical knowledge across Network Communication systems.

Essential Skills/Experience we require include:

* Strong Engineering background, able to process capability to continually improve and implement new processes.
* In depth knowledge of Royal Naval Communication (ICS6 systems & SCOT5)
* Broad IT networking skills.
* Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and simply to a customer base ranging from novice to expert.
* Able to ensure processes are followed & can design and implement configuration management.
* Excellent coordination skills to manage large number of enquiries and activities.
* Able to focus on desired outcomes and methods of achieving them. Responds positively to change and adapts approach accordingly.
* Ability to manage workload to focus on key priorities, while not ignoring the lower priority items.
* Identifies and anticipates problems and communicates practical solutions in advance.
* Able to present new ideas to the team and drive them to completion.
* Flexibility and adaptable to working patterns necessary to deliver the role requirements

Desired Skills:

* Knowledge of the UMMS maintenance system
* Command system knowledge (secondary role only)
