Research Analyst - Big Data

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Analyst to join an established Product Development team based in Woking, Surrey.

You will work on a growing international team conducting research on publically traded companies derived from proprietary data assets in a Big Data environment. This would suit an energetic and motivated individual seeking to develop their critical thinking skills to serve the audience in the institutional investment space.

My client is a fast growing, entrepreneurial company with a flat organisational structure. Analysts are not only focused on research but are also considered key contributors to the growth of the business and product development. You will be positively surprised by how significant a contribution you can make towards both the direction and success of the company.

You will help build a build a unique product and service that provides clients actionable insight into the markets and companies covered. Your team is global, the companies you cover are global, and you will service and engage with clients globally.

Key tasks & responsibilities:

  • Build broad industry knowledge of the market sector you will be working in.
  • Build specific and expert knowledge of forecasting processes.
  • Manage the biweekly forecast update cycle through coordination with the operations team, and analyst team at all stages.
  • Ensure high quality forecasts through accuracy tracking and local team engagement.
  • Maintain and build a network of colleagues around the world to continually improve the process and its outputs.
  • With support from line manager and stakeholders, continue to develop the forecasting team's thematic research capabilities.
  • Identify and propose opportunities to enhance existing products and services.
  • Participate in development for new products while voicing new commercial opportunities in your product sectors to the Global Lead
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new forecasting methodologies with the data science team.
  • When necessary, travel to industry and company events (potentially globally).

Experience, skills and competencies suited to the role

  • Analysing large data sets with tools such as 'R', SQL, and/or Pivot tables to deliver accurate forecasts and actionable research.
  • Strong MS Excel (ability to write Macros, build scalable analyses desirable)
  • Understanding of relational database. How to connect and interact with data on SQL server
  • Presentation - should be able to present ideas in a concise and powerful manner
  • Proven exceptional analytical skills and appetite for knowledge
  • Technical skills including Excel, SQL, R, Python and/or C++ are a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to think on your feet when challenged, being responsive to client needs.
