Project Manager - Product Development (Retail, Food) - LONDON

The work location is in Paddington, LONDON and is a 3 months contract.

The pay rate on offer is between £450 - £500 per day.

The role is working for a well established, multi-national retailer and specialises in clothing, home and luxury product.

RETAIL / FMCG EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Food product development, NOT an IT role.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

Critical Path Management

  • Responsible for governing the end to end central planning process to ensure all New product development (NPD) and Every Day product development (EPD) are launched in store on time for your cluster
  • Accountable for defining a realistic critical path for each project with clear owners and timescales
  • Take ownership for key activities in the critical path process this includes diarising, managing and running relevant meetings
  • Ensure colleagues from our business and service providers adhere to the process to ensure all critical steps are delivered on time through effective meetings and communication
  • Accountable for tracking key milestones for each initiative and escalate issues quickly where required
  • Accountable for ensuring each of the 5 stage gates are closed effectively and any risks are assessed and escalated where required.
  • Identify and actively manage capacity constraints within the central planning process
  • Build strong relationships with all key stakeholders both internal and external to ensure effective communication and delivery


  • Create accurate weekly management information which provides visibility of progress, risks and issues to the cluster Leadership Team
  • Attend regular team governance meetings with the Head of Central Planning to identify any risks and issues for the overall Food Group

Continuous Improvement

  • Continually look for ways to continually improve the process to raise the target for the number of products delivered to stores on time launch
  • To continually improve the end to end process by analysing process adherence and capacity constraints
  • To deliver a more agile process continually review opportunities to reduce the lead time required for the stages of the critical path
  • Responsible for delivering consistent ways of working across all Clusters


  • Achieve the agreed target of products delivered on time for your cluster

Key experience

  • Product Development experience preferred (Retail, Food, FMCG)
  • Project management qualification accompanied by job related experience
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to challenge
  • Agile mindset, comfortable working in a fast paced, ever changing environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Able to think creatively and analytically to solve problems and drive value
  • Highly organised, tenacious and resilient self-starter
  • Able to manage demanding timescales and work with competing priorities
