QinetiQ is a leading provider in the UK, and an international supplier, of independent evaluation and training services for integrated weapon system, and air platform sub-systems, which are delivered by experienced professional people. Our main business is testing, researching, supplying, preparing, and sustaining client platforms and weapon systems for operational use by providing test, exercise, modelling, analysis services and laboratory facilities, in safe, realistic and instrumented environments.

We have a vacancy for a Project Manager within our Threat Representation and Operational Readiness IDT. Within TROR we develop, procure and integrate systems onto our test and evaluation ranges, and we deliver development trials, training and operational exercises on those ranges. The systems include: state of the art Command and Control systems, communication systems and specialised instrumentation. The trials comprise simple operation of individual equipment up to large scale international exercises with a variety of ships, aircraft and weapon systems.

Specific Responsibilities

- Delivery of programmes and projects safely and to time, cost and quality.
- Building strong working relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
- Managing a diverse set of stakeholders to achieve consensus, leading to comprehensive, sound and clearly-defined requirements and successful programme delivery.
- Development of clear and compelling customer proposals.
- Production and maintenance of robust project plans and resource/cost schedules (PPM), with which to manage the projects & forecast expenditure.
- Adherence to the Operating Framework PM processes and principles, including the QinetiQ Business Lifecycle.
- Regular, open, honest and timely project reporting using corporate tools and in line with financial reporting requirements.

Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required:

- Track record of successful delivery of projects and programmes to defined cost, timescale and budget.
- Ability to decompose complex issues, to an appropriate level of detail, in a methodical manner.
- First-hand experience of procurement and tendering processes (e.g. the production of specifications, definition of supplier selection criteria and contracting).
- Knowledgeable in risk management and experience of implementing mitigation strategies.
- Experience of test and evaluation trials and ranges.
- Experience of systems engineering discipline.
- An appreciation of diverse technologies.
- Capable of acting as an effective team member at all levels.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Drive and determination to achieve successful project delivery.
- Proactive and dynamic professional attitude to internal and external customers

You will need to demonstrate competency in all facets of project/programme management
APM PMQ or equivalent (to IPMA level D)
