Project Cost Accountant

The BFS (Business Finance Services) Financial Management and Analysis team are looking for a highly motivated Project Cost Analyst to join BFS Operations.

The successful applicant for this role will be responsible for controlling the financials relating to large Corporate Programmes/Projects. This is a new role and provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for an ambitious individual.

In this role you will control and manage all aspects of the financial management of the Programme. Working closely with the other finance professionals and key stakeholders you will be responsible for cost tracking and management, establishing robust financial processes and controls, programme planning and forecasting of financials, reporting financials to key stakeholders, inputting to programme business cases and review and validation of programme benefits.

You will also support the delivery of month end reporting in respect of the programmes, provide analysis and establish controls over programme spend.

Business Finance Services (BFS) provides a wide range of finance services to the organisation, using effective and efficient working practises and common technologies and processes.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Preparation of Programme cost plans and reforecasts
  • Tracking of costs against plan
  • Provide reporting and analytics to key stakeholders including Finance, Programme Office and Steering Committees and programme workstreams
  • Establish robust processes in relation to workstream spend profiles, including processes and controls on 3rd party spend.
  • Month end processes including accruals
  • Produce complete and accurate Financial reporting to key stakeholders including Programme Board, Steering committees and other governance bodies
  • Input to programme documentation including financial plans, business case and benefits realisation

Key Skills Required


  • Either a Qualified Accountant (CA/CIMA/ACCA) with post qualification experience in a Financial Services environment or similar qualification/degree and experience
  • Proven track record working in project/change environment
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and controls
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build excellent working relationships.
  • Ability to produce first-class output to demanding deadlines, whilst adapting to changing requirements
  • Good knowledge and experience of working in an IFRS and regulatory reporting environment


  • Knowledge of life assurance industry and associated investment accounting
