Programme manager , FTSE 100 Engineering Organisation.

I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a FTSE 100 Engineering Organization involved in some of the world's most cutting edge projects across the U.K and internationally. This particular role functions within the Marine and Technology division and has been created to support the high profile MSSP Contract.

The Programme Manager will work within the Service Delivery Management Team and report directly to the Head of Service Delivery. Programme Manager will be system (and contract) specific and will be responsible for the successful delivery of all project and business as usual activities associated with their remit. The post holder will be responsible for establishing and managing business processes, governance, and operating cycles.

The post holder will be the primary point of contact with the customer for all demand management, reporting, contract management and issues resolution. The post holder will manage contract specific activities, delegate authority and through audit, ensure compliance with processes and good working practices. The post holder will also be responsible for leading and maintaining a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the contract specific parent level Project Management Plan (PMP).
  • Ensure compliance with project management policies and procedures as specified within our business management system.
  • Establish and maintain MSSP specific work instructions in collaboration with other MSSP Programme Managers.
  • Development and maintenance of constructive customer and stakeholder relationships. Primary customer Point of Contact (POC) for all contract specific activities, supported by the Chief Engineer from the System Technical Authority (STA) and the Category Buyer from the Supply Chain team as required.
  • Collaboration with other system and class specific Programme Managers to ensure effective transfer of information and sharing of best practice.
  • Balancing of Business as Usual (BAU) and project workloads: Identification of scopes of work that are too complex or critical to be managed as BAU and require a dedicated project team to be established.
  • Manage the allocation and release of resources, including securing of resources from within Babcock and Key Support Partners to form project teams for high complexity or criticality scopes of work.
  • Approval of child PMPs for high complexity or criticality projects.
  • Approval of project progression through gated phase transitions, coordinating inputs from STA Chief Engineers and other stakeholders as required.
  • Ownership of the budget and responsibility for producing, with support of Finance team, Forecast of Outturn (FOO) for submission to the Authority.
  • Management of contract change and variations.
  • Track progress and work with performance management team to facilitate accurate and timely reporting.
  • Ensure that best practice lessons learnt are captured and shared.


  • Accountable to the Head of Service Delivery Management for business delivery
  • Primary point of contact for the customer.
  • Engagement across MSSP team to coordinate contract or class specific outputs

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an applicable discipline.
  • Advanced project and programme management skills with minimum of 5yrs applicable experience.
  • Association of Project Managers Practitioner Qualification or equivalent.
  • Enthusiastic with a can do attitude.
