Seeking a Product Manager for our Research Environment, for our COVID-19 Program of work. The research environment takes the data from the samples we've sequenced and makes it available and interpretable for researchers (academic and Pharma).

As a product manager you'll sit at the crossroads between science, technology and user experience. We'll look to you to empower product teams to root out and clarify user needs with researchers and designers - by becoming an expert in helping to deploy testing into the NHS and helping our users process the results to make better healthcare decisions.

Your ultimate goal will be to prioritise effectively and remove blockers so your multidisciplinary team can discover and create products that are easy to use, feasible to build, and loved by our users. We have lots of ongoing projects currently at different stages, from discovery to alpha, beta and live.

Key Responsibility:

  • Define and articulate the long-term product vision for the Covid-19 Research Environment
  • Owning the complete product lifecycle including product strategy, roadmap delivery and live services for the Covid-19 Research environment
  • Design the roadmap for the Covid-19 Research Environment, breaking up delivery into meaningful, achievable goals
  • Translate user needs into compelling stories designers can use to draw user flows and interactions, and developers can use to build the product
  • Plan the pipeline and make sure wherever possible, tech and design patterns are reused
  • Lead, organise, inspire and unblock designers, developers, data scientists and others within the multidisciplinary team with sharp analysis and well-communicated decisions
  • Representing users throughout the development process and leading user research to identify opportunities for new products/features?and service improvements - with internal and external users (e.g. from Pharma and the NHS)
  • Forensically analysing and interpreting the data set and metrics that support the product and service performance., including commercial accountability. Working with stakeholders to keep them appraised of product and service performance and on-going opportunities.
  • Working in close partnership with Chief Bioinformatics Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Information Officer and others to ensure a world class research environment



SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Domain knowledge: big data/ analytics tech stack and architecture

  • Good working understanding of these domains to be able to challenge data engineers, architects, software developers and bioinformaticians
  • Sufficient technical understanding such that you can effectively balance technical debt against new features, risks and defects
  • Have led teams (functionally or in squads), applying modern software delivery and engineering practices such as Agile and DevOps, knowing what to pick and choose to adapt to the squad's needs
  • Strong at adapting personal style and approach when dealing with different stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to make sound, evidence-based and data driven decisions, assessing risks and defending decisions and action.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills to be able to present trade-offs for decisions (e.g. ROI implications).
  • Cares personally about people, provides candid feedback often, develops trust and inspires teams



Product Management

  • Experience taking a product from discovery to running live
  • Experience of leading a team, including ability to mentor, coach and create a collaborative environment
  • Experience building and navigating complex, data heavy product suites
  • Experience of agile development/delivery of digital services
  • Successful at (and enjoy) collaborating with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Able to influence a range of stakeholders at a variety of seniorities but also willing to listen and take on board other opinions and ideas
  • Highly proactive and a practical problem solver who likes to figure stuff out rather than explaining why it can't be done.


Desirable skills

  • Healthcare experience a plus
  • 7-10 years' experience (preferred) in product management with demonstrable experience of managing complex product(s) visible at either a national or global level
