Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Understanding customer requirements and incorporating these into supplier selection and contracting activities.
  • Managing procurement risk and opportunity scenarios.
  • Identifying and exploiting procurement levers and optimising our costs through key supplier relationships.
  • Engaging, developing and managing key supply partners for DST at local, national and international level.
  • Conducting thorough 'through-life analysis' to inform purchasing decisions. Examining and communicating the impact that the supply chain may have on changing our value propositions.
  • Managing the effective performance of our supply chain partners.
  • Applying knowledge of international trade requirements to ensure DST remains compliant in international transactions.

Qualification/ Skills & Attributes:

  • 7+ years' experience in a procurement environment.
  • Good understanding of corporate governance and business ethics.
  • In-depth knowledge of tendering processes, value propositions and supplier selection.
  • Experience of managing local and international contracts throughout the life of a project.
  • Excellent influencing skills, relationship-building, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of defence or engineering sectors.
  • Capable of and comfortable with, instigating positive challenge to traditional ways of working.
  • Ability to use a wide range of influencing styles in order to execute negotiation with third parties.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to drive and demonstrate change.
  • Degree (or equivalent) qualification;
  • Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIPS, with professional qualification at level 5 or above (or equivalent).
