I am recruiting an experience Naval Architect to work for a FTSE 250 Engineering Support Services Organisation in Bristol. This role functions within their Marine and Technology Division which provides vital engineering services to key clients, such as the Royal Navy. The business unit is going through a massive period of growth and over the next three to five years will move from being a £100m business with circa 800 staff to a £200m business with 1100 staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide practical engineering solutions to problems discovered during design implementation
  • Provide senior representation at key MOD/ industry review meetings & provide a leading role for various business units.
  • Undertake role of Technical Authority
  • Engagement with Customers to develop and agree unambiguous statement of requirements
  • Chair and/or contribute to Design Reviews and provide TLS lead.
  • Objectively assess different design options from an in-service support perspective.
  • Application of first principles to novel problems
  • Manage risk within the project lifecycle
  • Produce design documentation in support of project lifecycle
  • Preparing and checking design documentation as required to time, cost and quality
  • Authorisation of design documentation as required
  • Specification, selection and/or management of external suppliers (component and service) as required
  • Management of multi discipline engineering and design teams to time, cost and quality
  • Develop new and existing processes and procedures, across health and safety, and engineering
  • Undertake independent investigations
  • Train and develop self and others
  • Build relationships with client, partners and key suppliers.

Required Experience

  • Engineering degree or comparable academic standard, in relevant discipline
  • To hold or be eligible to hold, Chartered Engineer status
  • Membership of relevant professional engineering body
  • Development of design solutions, substantiated against statement of requirement
  • Experience of design approaches throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ability to objectively assess different solutions against acceptance criteria
  • IT capable; Office, CAD, appropriate analytical software
