PMO MANAGER
Permanent position
Based in Reading, Berkshire
Salary up to £75,000 plus car allowance

OVERVIEW:

This is an existing role within the Delivery department of ICT Services to manage and develop the PMO. There is currently a number of project managers and Technical Project Managers within the PMO and the team requires a PMO Manager with extensive experience in building and managing a PMO with a proven track record for planning, executing, controlling and closing projects and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

The person will manage the running of the PMO and key PMO processes; including proactively managing Risks and Issues; Coordination of Change Control processes and supporting the production of various key project documents/deliverables; Coordination of Project Reporting and collation of inputs to key project governance and management meetings.

Identify and resolve core issues within the PMO and develop a strategy to drive excellence throughout the team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Define and build the PMO
  • Ensure optimal delivery of departmental/business strategic objectives
  • Leading efforts to improve project tracking and monitoring to ensure the right changes are being delivered effectively
  • Facilitate the definition of project missions, goals, tasks, and resource requirements; resolve or assist in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; develop methods to monitor project or area progress; and provide corrective supervision if necessary.
  • Responsibility for assembling the project staff; for their technical or functional development, performance, and/or termination during the project or programme of projects.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients and represent clients' needs as appropriate to senior management. Work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes.
  • Present oral and written reports defining plans, problems, and resolutions to appropriate levels of management.
  • Managing risk, risk mitigation and planning in all affected areas relating to associated projects.
  • Establishing process, documentation and controls for technical project management in line with business process and ethos.
  • Continuously improve project management toolkits and methodologies.
  • Managing/monitoring sub-contractors/third parties to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Overseeing accounting, costing and billing of the project and associated elements.
  • Oversee multiple projects at any given time, managing time, resource and priorities.
  • Some international travel may be required



KEY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 5 years of PMO Management experience, including experience in successfully managing various projects simultaneously. Outstanding grasp of information technology concepts and processes. Demonstrated aptitude for effective leadership of staff.
  • Prince 2 Practitioner
  • APMP (desirable)
  • ITIL Foundation + (desirable)
  • 6-Sigma Certified (desirable)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of project management phases, techniques and tools:
  • Initiate
  • Prepare: definition/scope/requirements
  • Execute & Control: scope, work plans, resources, deliverables, Q/A, transition planning, etc.
  • Close: completion and assessment
  • Experience with MS Project.
  • Established technical understanding and background.
  • Strong and tested project management skills, including sponsor and risk management.
  • Demonstrates a clear methodology and process to work and associated tasks.
  • Ability to engage and lead project resources to achieve the desired results.
  • Understands who the client is and what the client's needs are; provides realistic expectations; establishes specific customer satisfaction standards and actively monitors client satisfaction.
  • Outstanding record of project management success, both in results achieved and in use of professional methodology. Pro-active in developing and implementing strategies that significantly mitigate risk.
  • Recognizes problems or situations that are new or without clear precedent. Evaluates alternatives and finds solutions using a systematic, multi-step approach.
