Planning Manager - Engineering Supply & Demand


£50000 + Benefits

We currently have an opportunity for a Planning Manager to work for a FTSE100 Engineering and Support Services Business to be based in Bristol.

The organisation is the UKs leading provider of support services to the MoD and the Armed Forces and has been awarded a contract to become the Marine Systems Support Partner (MSSP) for the Royal Navy's new Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carriers and Type 45 Destroyers.

MSSP includes all power and propulsion systems including gas turbines, diesel engines, electrical distribution and platform management systems as well as a variety of on-board systems, including air conditioning, filtration, waste management, valves and pumps, fire-fighting equipment, highly mechanised equipment, lifts, cranes and refuel-at-sea capabilities.


The role take responsibility for the Leadership and development of the MSSP planning team, and ownership of the end to end (E2E) demand and supply process to ensure that MSSP delivers the requirements to T45 & QEC for both material and resource. The demand plan is a key enabler to delivering the In Service performance of the T45 & QEC classes.

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the planning team to deliver the Contract Demand Plan (CDP) and Contract Supply Plan to meet the requirements of the MSSP programme
  • Responsible for the outputs and sign off of the Demand & Supply planners within the Planning team
  • Continuous Improvement of the E2E planning process to improve its efficiency and effectiveness
  • Development of the tools and techniques used to deliver the E2E planning process
  • Optimise the level of planned demand through the E2E process to maximise the efficiency, effectiveness and profitability of the MSSP Programme
  • Maximising and monitoring the accuracy of demand forecasts to ensure that the requirements of the MSSP Programme are achieved
  • Ensure that inventory is optimised across MSSP enterprise to deliver an affordable and effective MSSP Programme
  • Continuously monitor and review inventory levels to ensure the respective KPIs are achieved
  • Lead the Order Book Reconciliation (OBR) process with Key Stakeholder to priorities and challenge demand
  • Responsible for approval for the CDP

Qualifications and Experience

  • Team management and leadership experience
  • Material / Inventory Planning & Forecasting background (UK Naval experience desirable)
  • Thorough knowledge of systems and processes relating to inventory optimisation and ERP Systems.
  • Knowledge of MoD materials systems (CRISP, etc), Forecasting & Optimisations tool and the Defence Logistics Framework
