Network Technician - Fibre Optic Cabling - Isle of Benbecula

One of the UK's Leading Partners in Science and Technology Research is looking for a Network Technician to come and join their dedicated Trials Control Systems (TCS) and Infrastructure Team. They are a global organisation that is predominantly based in Europe, North America and Australia, but are going into emerging markets in Africa and South East Asia.

You will be joining an existing team that has a vital role in the support and maintenance of UK Critical infrastructure.

Role Overview

In this role you will provide engineering and systems support to ensure the Ranges Trials Control and site communications infrastructure and associated systems remain available for support to the operation of the site. Within the TCS Team you will provide technical expertise to ensure the required configuration and operational readiness of systems that allow the safe conduct of test events within a Test and Evaluation Range facility.

  • Real time monitoring of systems in support of operational activities.
  • Liaison with customer and site engineers to elicit requirements and subsequent installation / configuration of communications and data distribution systems to meet the requirements.
  • Configuration of network based systems.
  • The management of software and hardware system build states.
  • Ensuring that data and communications infrastructure comply with the standards as set out in the company engineering policy.
  • Installation of copper and fibre networked communications/data systems.
  • Installation of IT based systems to strict standards in accordance with the company engineering policy

About You

  • Working knowledge and understanding of telecommunications networks - PSTN, AC15 and central battery interfaces.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved air traffic communications systems operating on E1 voice networks
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Cross site data links utilising E1 and Ethernet networks.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Site copper and fibre infrastructure including installation methods
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networks and infrastructure.

Location

The position is based on the Isle of Benbecula, and will require candidates to go through Security Clearance process after starting.

Candidates would be required to go through Security Clearance (SC) prior to starting.
