The Opportunity

As an aspiring Network Engineer, you'll be required to be part of a busy challenging Network Operations team, responsible for the day to day support, security, monitoring, management and enhancements to our client's corporate WAN / LAN / Voice networks within the UK and abroad. The position will involve providing 2nd/3rd line network support and project delivery as part of a dedicated team based at the organisations Head office in Farnborough.

You'll be involved in troubleshooting and resolving both customer and infrastructure issues that arise using monitoring and logging tools available to them. You'll be required to maintain and enhance the systems and an element of work is aligned to assist with the implementation of project based network configuration tasks.


  • Monitoring, diagnosing, troubleshooting and escalating network issues
  • Proactively working to update and process tickets within our system
  • Co-ordinate incident resolution activities across a number of internal teams and 3rd party suppliers ensuring customer incidents and changes are completed within agreed SLA.
  • Assist with the analysis of the root cause of faults and the production of subsequent RCA reports.
  • Creates and contributes to design & development documentation
  • Peer review documentation and method statements, and input to network designs
  • Proactively working to update and process tickets within our system
  • Work with the Security team, Design team, Programme and Project Manager teams, and Service teams to ensure timely and expert delivery of all project work.
  • Project implementation, working to HLD and LLD requirements.
  • Self-motivated with good time management
  • Communicates confidently with team members, business analysts, customers and other stakeholders
  • Follow change control procedures
  • Upgrading and enhancing systems, patching, configuration etc.

Key Skills

  • Experience of working with a complex network infrastructure (L2 / L3, Switches, routers VPN)
  • Routing and switching knowledge, experience on devices such as 2960, 3800, 4500, 6500 switches Previous data network background with experience of IP networks and related WAN/LAN technologies including, but not limited to TCP/IP, BGP, and OSPF.
  • Network Security concepts
  • Excellent knowledge of Cisco IOS
  • Troubleshooting Firewall and Network issues
  • VPN
  • Cisco Security appliances
  • DevOps, Agile, and automation skills & experience
