Location: Cardiff

Duration: 3 months initially

Rate: 12.00ph

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced Microbiology, Quality and Inspection Technician, to be based in Cardiff for an initial 3 month project.


The Microbiology Quality and Inspection Technician performs microbiological testing, environment monitoring, and bioburden monitoring to ensure smooth, compliant manufacturing processes are maintained.

Key responsibilities/essential functions include:

  • Ability to prepare and qualify media
  • Knowledge of a range of methods for bioburden testing to include those for purified water, raw materials/components and finished products
  • Microbial limits testing
  • Thorough understanding of the need and requirements for microbial environmental monitoring
  • Knowledge of basic microbial identification
  • Knowledge of the maintenance requirements for microbial stock cultures
  • Discard or reject products, material and equipment not meeting specifications
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations and work for conformance to specifications
  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products, and recommend necessary corrective actions
  • Perform incoming inspection of items
  • Review external laboratory results/reports
  • Verify conformance to specifications and protocols and report outcomes
  • Operates lab/test equipment that is not overly complex, as applicable
  • Performs laboratory stock checks
  • Autoclaving/waste management
  • Mark items with details such as grade and acceptance or rejection status
  • Preforming environmental monitoring of the cleanrooms
  • Comply with EHS regulations & policies

Quality Specific Goals:

  • Thorough understanding of aseptic technique
  • Understand the use of and need for a Class II Biohazard cabinet
  • Knowledge and understanding of acceptance activity requirements for incoming, in-process, and final inspection requirements (as associated with job type/position) to ensure that a device conforms to its specification and out of specification items are properly handled.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Stop Orders, Concessions, ESD, Calibration, Preventative Maintenance, Material Identification & Segregation, documentation configuration control practices; documentation & disposition of non-conforming material, and Good Documentation Practices requirements, as associated with this job type/position
  • Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
  • Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
  • Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required

Required Qualifications:

  • BSc Biomedical Science OR 5 years working experience in Laboratory
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write in local language
  • Proficient with software applications applicable to the job

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail
  • Technical / Associate Degree
  • Three years relevant experience in quality and/or inspection
