Mechanical Production Engineer

An opportunity for a Mechanical Production Engineer to join the Engineering team within my client working within their nuclear business unit in Whetstone, Leicester.

They are a FTSE 100 defence and engineering global organisation, within this role you would be working on a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, they work with a number of key clients domestically and internationally.

The role of the Whetstone based mechanical production engineer is to prepare detailed assembly instructions from drawings and specifications and to provide practical support to the technicians during the assembly & test process of bespoke components and machinery.

The Production Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Interpreting the relevant drawings, specifications and quality requirements of the project and liaise with technicians to complete assembly and test process.
  • Carrying out the necessary risk analysis to ensure the planned tasks are covered by adequate risk assessments and that any tooling or specialist services are identified and available. Some design of bespoke tooling or fixtures will be required.
  • Carrying out mechanical testing of components, assemblies and to assist in the preparation of life time quality records.
  • Identify cost drivers in new and current designs, with a view to changing the manufacturing process in order to improve efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Maintain production equipment to ensure continuous operation and high quality of products through the production process
  • Working with failures of legacy equipment to complete fault finding or replacing obsolete parts
  • Defining the assembly process by means of layout and Work instructions for product build and any required equipment training
  • Work closely with the Department Managers to be able to organize the department in their absence
  • Review and advise Engineering department on manufacturability of new designs and processes to ensure design for manufacture adhered to.
  • To be involved with both office and hands on work on the shop floor.
  • Be able to work within a large team of multi skilled engineers.
  • Standard working hours split across 4.5 days (Monday- Thursday 7.30 - 4.30 / Friday 7.30 - 12.30)

Role Qualifications & Requirements

  • Mechanical apprenticeship and HNC as a minimum.
