Role: Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: CheltenhamDuration: 12 MonthsRate of Pay: £45/hour Role Summary/Purpose:An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer within the Avionics & Displays business. This position is required to meet increased demand for mechanical engineering support on existing and new projects. In this role you will utilise your experience and expertise in mechanical engineering to support and develop electronic equipment for civil and military applications. Essential Responsibilities:Mechanical design of electronic equipment for civil and military aerospace applications.To interpret written requirements and specifications and scope a design to meet them.Creation of part and assembly drawings.Design to meet cost, quality and schedule objectives.Definition of thermal and structural analysis requirements and liaison with analysts to support the design.Conduct manual analysis, e.g. weight, suitability of materials, environmental effects etc.To identify project risks and contribute to the management strategy.To assist project management in reporting of status and progress to agreed plans.Support project, customer and supplier meetings including presentation of designs. Qualifications/Requirements:A degree in mechanical engineering or similar subject, or equivalent experience.Proficient in the use of MCAD modelling and detailing, when used in conjunction with a PDM Tool.Fully conversant with relevant drawing standards.Experience in the physical design of electronic equipment.Competent in the use of MS Office suite of software.Ability to work well within a team environment.Ability to own tasks, show initiative and work with minimal supervision.Good problem solving and solution building skills.Experience with configuration control methods applicable to drawings and MCAD models.Good written and verbal communication skills. Desired Characteristics:Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.Previous experience in an aerospace development environment.Knowledge of materials and finishes as appropriate to aerospace equipment.Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and process for electronic products.Understanding of thermal management techniques as deployed on electronic equipment.Understanding of structural analysis principles in order to define constraints and load cases to be analysed by others. Ability to assess FEA results.Experience designing for cost, quality.Experienced in the application of tolerance analysis.Ability to estimate and manage own workload on multiple tasks.Willing to extend work hours on occasion to suit project demand.To apply please send your CV's in the first instance.
