What you'll do

  • Carry out Electrospinning using different polymers and solvents to generate nanofibrous matrices, including solution preparation and physical properties testing
  • Carry out Lamination of electrospun material into different number of layers and configurations under different temperature and pressure settings
  • Use a range of chemical analysis techniques to characterise electrospun fibres, as well as supporting other analytical needs within the wider chemistry team
  • Take detailed lab notes and use these to write up accurate protocols, technical reports and presentations
  • Carry out and document COSHH and Risk Assessments

Who you are

  • You should hold a PhD in Materials Science, Materials Chemistry or Materials Engineering
  • Understanding of electrospinning and polymeric membranes (composition, formation, stability), chemistry to support and optimise membrane based structures
  • Experience with a wide range of standard analytical techniques, including but not limited to scanning electron microscopy, porometry, viscometry, GC-FID and Raman spectroscopy, as well as the ability to identify and support the development of new analytical methods
  • Proven track record in rational, hypothesis based experimental design, execution, and data analysis
  • Be comfortable working in a collaborative team under time constraints
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Available to travel internationally on a short notice if needed
