A leading Defence and Security Company are looking to bring in a Maritime Physicist who will be responsible for investigating problems associated with hydrodynamic and hydro-acoustic performance in a maritime context.

The role

  • Perform engineering/technical assignments requiring integration of a wide range of disciplines.
    * Plan, design, carry out, develop and report technical projects or trials.
    * Respond to customers' requirements, delivering outputs that are appropriately aligned.
    * Prepare written documentation (work instructions, customer reports, proposals etc.
    * Production and delivery of tasks within time and budget constraints
    * Continue professional development of self and colleagues

    Essential Education, Qualifications and Training

You must hold a Master's degree in Physics, Applied Science or Engineering discipline or:

In lieu of degree qualification, extensive relevant technical experience working in a science or engineering role.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience of optical and/or acoustical measurement and data acquisition methods, applied to bodies in fluid flows or similar, e.g. PIV, LDV/LDA, microphones/hydrophones.
    * Experience of signal/data processing techniques e.g. spectral analysis, analysis of turbulent flows.
    * Good analytical skills and evaluative judgement based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations.

    Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements:
  • Able to think conceptually and translate into viable practical technical solutions.
    * Take responsibility and make reliable and consistent judgements under minimal supervision.
    * Able to undertake experimental campaigns that may involve physically demanding elements.
    * Sound planning and organisation skills.
    * Be flexible and have excellent team working skills
    * Good communication skills

You must hold DV clearance (or be willing to go through DV clearance process)
