Naval Engineer - Bristol

A market leading FTSE 100 Defence organisation is currently recruiting for Naval Engineers with a Mechanical bias to take on a permanent positions ASAP. You will be joining a team working on one of the most complex support arrangements in operation in the UK today where you will learn the skills and techniques required to express complex arrangements and systems in a way that non specialists understand.

This is an opportunity for ambitious candidates to get a broad range of experience within an organisation that is leading the delivery of In Service Support to a variety of Nations and Naval Vessels across the world.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • The team consists of Availability, Reliability, Maintainability and Review of Maintenance engineers who are responsible for the comprehensive review of Royal Navy submarine maintenance schedules, assessment of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) studies, and for conducting Availability, Maintainability and Reliability analysis on Royal Navy submarine systems and equipment
  • The successful candidate will be involved in delivering this programme of work to agreed contractual requirements whilst aiming to exceed customer expectations.
  • To achieve this aim, the successful candidate will take ownership of their responsibilities while working closely with design and equipment authorities within the MoD and the wider community to identify new opportunities to grow the service in the future.

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience:

  • The ability to understand and deliver technical requirements.
  • The ability to manage simultaneous projects / tasks in a constantly shifting environment including the delivery of tasks on time, within budget and meeting customer quality standards.
  • Familiarity with commercial (including sub-contract) processes.
  • IT competent including extensive use of MS Office and project management tools.
  • Experience of Reliability Centred Maintenance and conducting Availability, Reliability and Maintainability methodologies.
  • Actively considers the wider picture, identifying patterns and connections between issues/situations that are not obviously related.
  • Able to take appropriate decisions, which may impact on others, based on an informed judgment.
  • To work in a structured way ensuring efficient use of time.
  • Able to maintain commitment to deliver results, against their own and team responsibilities, even when difficulties arise.
  • Can demonstrate commitment to individual and team goals by co-operating with others.
  • Regularly reviews work processes and practices to identify and implement improvements.
  • Undertakes development of own skills and their teams to ensure that they can achieve the demands of the role today and tomorrow.
  • Supports and guides others to adapt to change.
  • Supports team to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Experience within the Defence Industry and an understanding of MOD working practices. (desirable)
  • Experience of Royal Navy submarines from a design, maintenance or operational perspective. (desirable)
  • An understanding of Submarine Enterprise specific tools such as Maritime Collaborative Working Environment and the SSMG Applications suite. (desirable)
  • Experience of successfully managing teams, supported via formal recognised qualifications such as certification from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). (desirable)
  • Project Management experience, supported via formal qualification with the Association of Project Managers (APM). (desirable)

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Honours Degree in a relevant STEM discipline; OR
  • Qualification to NVQ4 /HND / BTEC Level 5 in a relevant STEM discipline may be acceptable augmented by significant experience in a relevant engineering field.
  • Incorporated Engineer, or have a working plan in place demonstrating how this will be achieved with an appropriate engineering institution.
  • Eligible for SC Clearance (Essential)
