Devonport, in Plymouth, supports the Royal Navy's current surface ship and submarine fleets and they are getting ready to receive the next generation of naval platforms.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. It has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme, including Astute and Dreadnought class.

As such, they require a Machinist to support the increased work within the workshops.

To be successful within this role, you should be able to:

  • Undertake manual machining operations
  • Competent in the use of centre lathes, milling machines, radial arm drill, horizontal borer and flange facing machine.
  • Read engineering drawings, interpret work instructions and perform the work to time, cost and quality.
  • Able to undertake dimensional inspections
  • Cleaning up of own work arisings.
  • Slinging duties as required.
  • Any other task within the individual's competence as directed by the Company.
  • Have served a recognised apprenticeship or have equivalent L3 Qualifications.
