Inventory Manager


£28,000 + Benefits

We currently have an opportunity for an Inventory Manager working for the UKs leading Engineering and Support Services Business to be based in Portsmouth.

The organisation is the UKs leading provider of support services to the MoD and the Armed Forces and has been awarded a contract to become the Marine Systems Support Partner (MSSP) for the Royal Navy's new Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carriers and Type 45 Destroyers.

MSSP includes all power and propulsion systems including gas turbines, diesel engines, electrical distribution and platform management systems as well as a variety of on-board systems, including air conditioning, filtration, waste management, valves and pumps, fire-fighting equipment, highly mechanised equipment, lifts, cranes and refuel-at-sea capabilities.


Working closely with the business, MoD and Royal Navy you will receive customer orders, challenge and satisfy customer demands in execution of the Strategic Business Objectives.

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

To receive customer orders, challenge and satisfy customer demands in execution of the Strategic Business Objectives. Reporting to the Inventory Management Lead for business delivery

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • The day to day support of customer demands, including receipt of the demands and data entry into Project Demand Management Application. The demand management data is to be maintained and kept accurate as demands are progressed through the supply chain to delivery.
  • Validate demands, challenge when appropriate, raise material requirement using Corporate Procurement Application. Wherever possible, to draw from company surplus stock to fulfil demands.
  • Responsible for achieving availability, performance, savings and targets relating to inventory availability and demand satisfaction.
  • To ensure inventory is available, agree supply plans, ensuring that inventory levels / budget are maintained within agreed boundaries.
  • Identify potential stock shortages and prioritise orders and deliveries with suppliers to prevent an out of stock situation.
  • The support of processes and procedures to ensure effective control of activities relating to material demand, quality management, handling / storage, issue to the customer.
  • Report on and update the inventory management system, on demand performance including, aged demand required delivery dates, by value / quantity, project etc, and subsequently make recommendations.
  • Support new product introductions, product reviews, supplier transactions, implementation of print on demand and kitting projects as required.
  • To review inventory performance against business requirements and make recommendations on any opportunities to improve cash flow, customer satisfaction and compliance.
  • To identify assemblies, sub-assemblies and line replacement units (LRU) to meet availability codes and customer demands within the timescales assigned to Supply Codes used within the Contract.
  • To liaise with the Logistics provider, MoD Agencies, RN Stores or End User Demanders, as appropriate, in the supply of materials or equipment in a timely and effective manner.
  • To liaise with the Logistics provider, MOD Commodity Managers, MoD Agencies in the supply of materials and equipment.
  • Ensure all work is carried out within the Contract and Company Operating Procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Inventory Management Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of systems and processes relating to inventory management and material control.
  • Knowledge of MoD materials systems (CRISP, MJDI etc.) is highly advantageous but not essential.
