Interim Head of Site

6 month contract opportunity

Up to £27 p/h

Colchester based

The purpose of this role is to effectively manage the businesses operational resource in order to safely deliver the required output against the plan(s). This role makes resource prioritisation decisions to best to achieve the current (plus any subsequent amendments) to the output plan using the resources available.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and leading site management
  • Responsible for ensuring operations are performing to the contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Working collaboratively with the senior management teams from across the support functions to improve the overall operational efficiency (e.g. Planning, facilities, I&RM, Engineering)
  • To develop management capability on site providing sustainable operational capability
  • Continually tracking output from site against plan(s)
  • Continually looking 4 weeks in advance for available resource/capacity vs demand plan and reacting to misalignments
  • Where behind plan making decisions how to; recover / mitigate / flag risk upwards
  • Reporting production progress (and risks) upwards where required
  • Monitoring non-conformance report trend data and ensuring containment/corrective actions have been put in place
  • To support role out of Company initiatives in their area(s)
  • To support change management initiatives in their areas(s)
  • To encourage and drive innovation and improvements into production area(s)
  • To review and authorise accordingly direct reports request
  • To review proposed amendments to delivery plan (additions, reductions, changes) and disseminate information to direct reports accordingly
  • To lead by example in adhering to company processes supporting on-going ISO 9001 (2015) certification
  • Owner of approved processes in respective business area
  • To conduct monthly safety tours of their area(s)

Technical Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Educated to Level 4 in National Qualification Framework (NQF) as a minimum (Higher apprenticeship, HNC, Level 4 NVQ) or equivalent workplace experience
  • HSE qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safety)
  • Experience of working in a Unionised environment
  • Experience of military customer and ways of working
  • Experience of Lean methodology
  • Competent PC user (MS Office, MS Outlook, SharePoint, ERP system)
  • Ability to manage people, individuals and teams
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to challenge and have awkward conversations
  • Ability to make rational decisions based on information available
  • Ability to manage allocated budgets
  • Ability to make prioritisation decisions with limited resources
  • Ability to react to changing demands
