Instrument Cluster System Engineer

Location: UK Woking

Duration: 1.5 years

Main Purpose of Role

As Senior Instrument Cluster Engineer you will be responsible for development, test and delivery of state-of-the-art electronic information and entertainment features to client.

The Instrument Cluster team is responsible for the specification, test and delivery of all Instrument Cluster systems, which will include; developing system requirements, test case and procedure creation, manual test execution, automated testing, as well as supporting the Principal Engineer in supplier management, provision of work to the test team, proof of concept development and business reviews.

The position requires a highly motivated and hands-on team player with an exceptional attention to detail, diligence and a positive attitude. The fast paced development and bespoke target platform provide a challenging environment suited to an engineer who has the ability to quickly develop skills in new areas and liaise with other engineers within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

Write detailed system specifications for Instrument Cluster features. Assist with management of multiple hardware and software suppliers to deliver new Instrument Cluster features on time, on cost, and within quality and functional specifications. Assist with work provision for a small test engineering team. Manage and execute testing of all software deliveries. Take responsibility for resolving Instrument Cluster issues on current production vehicles. Report on current activities, software status and issues at a business level. Test road cars with the latest features and content before release. Develop and co-ordinate DVP plans for all areas associated with the Instrument Cluster software. Manage and develop manual and automated test rigs to facilitate the required testing of all new and existing features within the Instrument Cluster software domain. Assist with fault finding and root cause analysis of software and hardware failures.

Skills and Experience

Passion for the automotive industry, Experience with Instrument Cluster Systems, Application modules and HMI features. Knowledge of CAN and CAN based tools. Experience and understanding of vehicle level system integration in terms of hardware and software Experience of systems testing of HMI-based systems.

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Experience in a systems engineering, or electronics role - preferably a minimum of 2 years, Experience of the Systems Development Lifecycle (V Model); writing system requirements, defining test cases and writing test procedures. Ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard. Organised, systematic and understand the process of fault finding. Ability to effectively manage time between multiple projects.

Able to employ fundamental engineering principles. Able to make sound judgements based on balance of risk, when data is not available. Highly organised. Able to multi-task and prioritise.
