Infrastructure Team Lead

Linux | DevOps | Automation




Due to an increased focus on Dev Ops and Automation we are looking for an experienced leader for our client based in Cardiff.

The goal is to fully automate the provisioning of servers, deployment of code and general configuration management. You will be working closely with development, testing, and the wider infrastructure team and your opinion and the code you write will define how we deploy and manage our services.

You will also be working in a fast pace environment, driving performance and reliability from software, infrastructure and cloud environments. You will tackle challenging, unique situations every day and work with other functions and employees.

You will be looked upon as a subject matter expert and advocate to fellow team members on making reliable technical decisions around supporting and deploying large scale services and engineering complex systems that run business critical services for our customers.


  • The automation team leader will drive building the virtual infrastructure of our application platform.
  • Design, build, document and deploy infrastructure for our in-house developed software and services.
  • Be a technical lead, including responsibility for mentoring your team, designing and reviewing complex code.
  • Take an active part in product architecture and design decisions.
  • Provide guidance to other members of the infrastructure team around automated processes and tooling and use new automation tooling where needed.
  • Taking responsibility for making key decisions to ensure the successful delivery of the product.
  • Act as escalation point for team members in the resolution of complex problems.
  • High level technical representation on priority issues and managing the technical resolution.
  • Ensure regular and clear updates are provided to the Head of Infrastructure.
  • Working closely with members of our Infrastructure Team to automate standard processes.
  • Acting as, and constantly developing as a Technical expert within specified technologies.
  • Developing and promoting IT security best practices.

Key skills and requirements

  • Three plus years of configuration management and engineering, ideally supporting an agile development process.
  • Experience with software build tools (Maven) and continuous integration tools (Jenkins).
  • Extensive experience with Linux environments and scripting languages (we tend to use bash, ruby, perl, go, etc, but are open to any language).
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Openstack, Google, Open Cloud, etc.) and cloud automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Terraform).
  • Deep understanding of version control systems (SVN, Git, etc.), including branching and merging strategies.
  • Experience with task management and documentation through Jira and Confluence.
