Role: Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Farnborough / Remote

Duration: 3 months (possible extensions)

Rate: £400 - £450/day (Umbrella only)

As part of the Operations Engineering team, Infrastructure Engineers effectively monitor, manage and develop the company's IT solutions throughout the IT Estate to ensure customer satisfaction in all services provided.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, assess and administer changes to all Group IT managed systems to ensure the continual improvement of operating effectiveness and efficiency in line with the change process and IT Strategy.

The Operations Engineering team are responsible for virtual and physical servers both Microsoft and Linux based and the hosting infrastructure supporting the virtual server environment. In addition they deliver against continual service improvement requirement sand digital transformation.

  • Support Head of IT Operations, in delivery of IT Services.
  • Lead the evaluation and installation of new software releases, system upgrades, and system patches
  • Assist with the deployment and analysis of new technologies and enhancements to existing systems
  • Ensure relevant system/service documentation is full and complete and communicate any shortfalls to colleagues and line management. Pro-actively identify candidates for 'Pre-Approved' Changes.
  • Incident management and resolution across IT server Infrastructure
  • Administration, Monitoring and optimization of corporately managed Active Directories and associated domain services including system backup and DR policies and procedures.
  • Undertake System Management and Administration across all systems within Platforms Services remit
  • Administration, monitoring and development of corporately managed messaging services including but not limited to Microsoft Exchange and Skype for Business software.
  • Reviewing and acting on service desk calls and completing work assigned by line manager.
  • Maintain a Configuration Record of all systems deployed.
  • Compliance with security policies and requirements and active configuration and maintenance of security standards across Group IT technologies
  • Production and management of IT Operations documentation to current standards.
  • Comply with configuration control requirements
  • Contribute to the maintenance of Disaster Recovery capabilities

  • Security Clearance (SC) is required for this role and must be maintained.


Technical

  • Extensive knowledge of VMWare ESX/vSphere administration.
  • Extensive knowledge of Enterprise level storage solutions
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012/2016/2019 (Windows 10 advantageous)
  • Experience in VMware NSX / software defined firewalls
  • Experience in VMWare vSAN, administration and configuration
  • Experiencing of administering Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO and other domain service functions
  • Experience in enterprise level backup technologies
  • Experience in administering Microsoft Exchange 2010/2013
  • A clear understanding of IT Security Standards in an enterprise environment
  • VCP certification or equivalent experience.
  • MCSE, MCP, MCSA or equivalent experience
  • RHCE or equivalent.
  • Strong system analysis experience required
  • Experience in a service delivery, best practice environment preferred
  • ITIL v3.0 (or above) Framework Certificate or equivalent experience of an ITIL Service Management Implementation.
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001
