Health Physicist, FTSE 100 Organisation - £33,000 - £39,000 + Benefits + Exceptional career progression.

I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a FTSE 100 Engineering Organization that are involved in some of the world's most cutting edge projects across the U.K and internationally.

The Health Physicist reports to the radiation protection advisor and provides support in the completion of professional Health Physics Assurance tasks.

Main Tasks

  • To assist the RRDL Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) in providing professional Health Physics support to the Ion Exchange Resin Disposal Project;
  • To provide Health Physics support for SEPA and ONR regulatory inspections, including addressing any findings arising out of these regulatory inspections;
  • To assist the RPA in preparing Health Physics assurance documentation, and to carry out internal RRDL assurance inspections as directed by the RPA;
  • To review RRDL's environmental radioactivity monitoring programme in light of recommendations from the Rosyth Habits Study and SEPA comments;
  • To provide professional Health Physics support to the planning and running of future Site Nuclear Emergency Exercises and to be on-call for and if necessary to act as Health Physics Adviser in the event of a Nuclear Emergency;
  • To plan and deliver radiological protection training to RRDL employees e.g. Radiation Protection Supervisor training;
  • To provide Health Physics support to the rest of the Nuclear Safety Department, for example to provide support to Nuclear Safety Case production.
  • To represent RRDL on the Environment Agencies Requirements Working Group (EARWG) and other external groups as directed by the RRDL RPA.
  • To work towards achieving Radiation Protection Adviser and Radioactive Waste Adviser accreditations to provide back-up for the RPA. (Company Supported)

Applicants will ideally:

  • Science Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Radiation Protection or Higher/Equivalent
  • Two years professional Health Physics experience.
  • Membership of Society for Radiological Protection.
