I am recruiting an experienced Health and Safety Manager to work with a FTSE 250 Specialist Nuclear Services Organisation. The purpose of the H&S/HS&E Manager is the co-ordination and provision of health and safety advice and support to Project Managers and Service/Functional Managers.

Reporting to the HSE Business Partner you will also be responsible for undertaking inspection and monitoring activities to monitor compliance with health and safety management arrangements and for the production of the Health and Safety Management System.

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive advice, support and appropriate resources to facilitate projects, in order to improve H&S arrangements, culture, performance and meet project requirements
  • Provide exemplar advice on construction activities, ensuring best practice construction site safety
  • Develop, maintain and advise on the H&S management system and support documentation, to meet both legislative and internal requirements
  • Develop training, development and succession plans for all direct reports
  • Co-ordinate local H&S resources to provide effective support within the Project or equivalent and ensure a high quality of work delivered by the resource
  • Provide advice and support to Project/Operations Managers on Event Investigations and management in order to ensure Events are appropriately investigated and lessons to prevent re-occurence are promulgated
  • Identify and deliver appropriate H&S governance audit programmes, and advise on lower level audit/inspection programmes, in order to monitor the effectiveness of systems and arrangements
  • Direct interface with Senior Managers, Executives and Customers
  • Support the Senior H&S/HS&E Managers in defining H&S Strategy

Required Experience / Qualifications:

  • Level 3 accredited health and Safety Qualification e.g.
    • BSC Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health
    • National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) Level 3 Health and Safety at Work
    • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Have a proven track record preferably gained within a similar role in the Nuclear or other highly regulated high hazard industry
  • Good working knowledge of the Customers health and safety requirements where appropriate
  • Good working knowledge and application of ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001
  • Strong communication skills. Persuasive and influential with the Project/Service organisation and with customers and suppliers
  • Chartered Safety Practitioner (CMIOSH) or equivalent health and safety related chartership
  • Approved Auditor qualification (or has demonstrable skills and track record)
  • Competent Risk Assessor
  • Security Clearance will need to be obtained
