Job Title: Head of Supply Chain (Submarines)
Location: Devonport, Plymouth

We're looking for a Head of Supply Chain (Submarines) to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Overall Department Direction
The Naval Nuclear Supply Chain (Submarine Team) are embedded in the Submarine BU cross functional team and represent the Supply Chain interests as an Internal service provider into the project / program.
Working on major repair and overhaul, deep maintenance programs in addition to fleet time support areas the supply chain team provide Materials, Services and Subcontract support.

The current platform is nearing its later stages and planning is now underway for the next platform challenge within the operational life cycle.

Leading a team of approx. 6 Program Procurement Specialists the successful candidate will ensure material and service delivery into the Submarine and associated Infrastructure programmes.

Main Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain the Head of Supply Chain (Submarines) will have overall accountability for the Supply Chain Planning, Material Management and Procurement areas embedded within the Submarine BU and represent the function at all times.

Working collaboratively with the Internal Key S-Holders and external Customer, this role is in support of the Materials and Sub contract services across the Devonport Site.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
The post holder would suit a candidate who is seeking a career within a embedded Supply Chain procurement environment with:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent
  • MCIPS or equivalent professional accreditation
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher desirable
  • The primary place of work is Devonport however travel to alternative sites and key suppliers will be required at times.


  • Proven transformational delivery
    Min 5 years in a senior Supply Chain Procurement leadership role within a major organisation
  • Defence Sector Repair and Overhaul knowledge
  • Exposure to regulatory bodies such as Lloyds and ONR
  • Experienced procurement practitioner with knowledge of current strategic procurement techniques
  • Deep understanding of planning and implementing supply arrangements, managing supplier performance and scheduling of deliveries.
