Head of Reward - London - 6 months

The work location is in London and is a 6 month contract.

The role is working for a multinational retailer.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Create and deliver a reward strategy aligned to the HR and business strategy, to deliver a modern and relevant total reward proposition which recognises and rewards colleagues for their contribution and performance
  • Lead annual BAU processes including pay review and bonus cycles, and management of change projects to deliver greater return for the business
  • Deliver an effective process for increasing the two-way communications with colleagues, driving engagement wherever possible on reward and benefits policy, principles and communication
  • Review and measure the success of total reward elements, and where appropriate propose changes which aligns to the overall HR plan, will increase colleague engagement and motivation and will drive business performance
  • Utilise technology to simplify reward processes and drive digital solutions for colleagues which are accessible at all times
  • Meet agreed performance objectives and displaying appropriate leadership/managerial behaviour
  • Coach and develop the Reward team, setting performance objectives and managing performance, to effectively deliver the reward plan
  • Manage costs within approved budget, and measure return on investment from Reward initiatives

Key Interactions

  • Work proactively with the HR Leadership Team to help define and deliver the HR strategy and plan
  • Work collaboratively with the HR Business Partners to understand the different BUs, challenges they face from a Reward perspective and where appropriate, to develop solutions to address these concerns
  • Work with the other HR Centres of Expertise to ensure that the Reward strategy is aligned to overall HR strategy and all elements of the HR proposition are aligned
  • Work with Colleague Services to deliver operational elements of the Reward proposition, to utilise data and MI to inform to shape future strategy and support decision making processes and to explore ways to further enhance our Reward proposition through HRIS
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with the Head of Executive Reward and External Reporting, to ensure end-to-end view of the total reward proposition
  • Work with other key stakeholders across the business as appropriate, this will include Finance, Legal, Communications and Senior Business Leaders.


Key experience

  • HR experience demonstrating competence across a wide range of HR areas
  • Setting strategy and development of reward and benefits policy across a breadth of labour pools
  • Employment law and technical legal knowledge on pay, benefits, pensions, and mobility requirements
  • Change and project management of company-wide projects
  • Driving transformation in a matrix organisation
  • Strong analytical and data led insight-based skills
  • Exceptional ability managing senior stakeholders
  • Commercially astute able to grasp the big picture without losing sight of the detail
  • Strategic, forward thinking and digitally savvy
