Head of Projects & Planning


£65,000 - £75,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus

We are looking to recruit a Head of Projects & Planning for a brand new role within a FTSE100 engineering and support services business based in Telford.

The organisation is the UKs largest provider of engineering and support services to the UKs Armed forces. From the site in Telford the organisation maintain, repair, and store the Army's fleet of land vehicles. The purpose of the role of Head of Projects & Planning is to lead the projects and planning teams to develop business planning and control, data management, business management, process improvement and order management within the inventory and repair management function.

This will be achieved by taking responsibility for the following tasks.

  • Provide clear and strategic leadership to staff within the project and planning teams to ensure they have the appropriate skills, tools and motivation to ensure effective delivery of objectives
  • Ensure that Planning & Forecasting is employed appropriately to assure customer service to internal and external customers
  • Lead an inventory management approach to provide the best balance between cost and availability of parts
  • Drive good Sales, Inventory & Operational Planning practises
  • Develop and manage a programme plan for all improvement projects using Prince 2/APMP and Managing Successful Programme methodologies.
  • Ensure project scope is comprehensive and aligns to business strategy
  • Develop Standard Operating Model to deliver an inherently capable and quiet supply chain solution
  • Lead the data management function for managing data on behalf of our customers
  • Provide performance management dashboards to support functions and lead on exploitation of data strategies to provide business insight
  • Manage the buying function that processes and places orders with the supply base
  • Ensure management structures and practices within the project teams as a whole support a culture of effective team working, continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Lead Business Planning across the inventory and repair management function.

What we are looking for

  • A degree or relevant professional qualification and have recent experience in a senior capacity of supply chain management in a major complex organisation
  • Proven ability in supply chain management.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, tools and techniques, evidenced through extensive practical experience, and preferably a recognised qualifications such as Prince 2 or APMP practitioner
  • Experience of planning & forecasting for a complex supply chain
  • Excellent organisational skills and expertise in managing change involving multi-disciplinary stakeholders/groups and the ability to deliver objectives within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience of developing business cases, programme reports, and giving presentations.
  • Strong leadership and collaborative working skills, and facilitation and coaching skills as evidenced through operating in a programme management environment.
  • Knowledge of working within the Defence industry (Desirable)
  • Willingness to travel within the UK
  • Full driving licence
