Head of Programmes, FTSE 100 Engineering Organisation - up to £75,000 + £20% Bonus + Car + package.

I am recruiting on behalf of a FTSE 100 Engineering Organization and a true market leader within the nuclear division. They are currently looking for a Head of programmes to provide strategic leadership on a portfolio of projects with a key client.

The successful head of Programmes will create a high performing business to ensure that the portfolio achieves planned growth and operational and strategic financial objectives by creating a culture consistent with the organisations principles of Safety, People and Performance.

This role is a senior leadership position and as such the key attributes of the successful candidate will include:

  • An authoritative, persuasive, confident and inspirational leader able to act strategically and tactically willing to engage and motivate at all levels within their organisation whilst commanding authority and gravitas
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships and maintain an effective network.
  • Robust and demonstrable commercial awareness, results orientated with a team-centred approach.
  • Significant experience in professional client relationship management with demonstrable experience of working with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes
  • Experienced in delivering and managing change in complex/technical product and service environments
  • Committed and collaborative team player

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide visible leadership, direction and guidance
  • Implement strategic objectives for the AWE, MoD and DSRL Business that ensures the commercial targets are met.
  • Implement annual and medium term plans and budgets to meet financial objectives.
  • Undertake P&L responsibility for the AWE account, and ensure the implementation of financial and cost controls which result in effective, timely and accurate monitoring of project performance.
  • Implement short and medium-term marketing and sales strategies to deliver sales volumes, bid conversions, production targets and profit plans to ensure the achievement of agreed budgets and margin objectives. Monitor achievement rates against target expectations and contractual requirements.
  • Through effective direction and control, ensure that key contractor and supply networks are established and maintained, which consistently and effectively support project delivery to time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Work with the Resource Management team within the Technical Directorate to ensure that the projects/ programmes/ services have the necessary resource infrastructure to support the planned objectives.
  • Direct and control operations within the products/services/projects to ensure achievement of safety and environmental targets, agreed budgets and profit objectives.
  • Ensure continued development of the account to meet anticipated customer and market requirements, and market share objectives set by corporate strategy.

  • Adherence to safety, quality and environmental standards
  • Budgetary effectiveness and consistent achievement of financial objectives
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of account P&L and business risks.
  • Provision of excellent Customer satisfaction including ongoing evaluation of services provided
  • Generation and maintenance of effective external relationship networks
  • Meeting or exceeding account growth targets
  • Maintenance of working practices and environment consistent with company and legislative safety and environmental requirements.
  • Effective contribution to UK Projects strategy

Role Qualifications & Requirements:

The successful applicant should have one or more of the following:

  • Qualification in relevant technical/product/service disciplines
  • Experience of successful delivery of multiple service/product contracts - large and small
  • Sound financial understanding - previous P&L responsibility
  • Negotiation, communication and influencing skills.
  • Sound commercial awareness and customer service skills.
  • Relevant UK industry experience
  • Leadership and change management in multi discipline and location environment
