Head of Procurement - Helicopter Aviation

Staverton, Gloucestershire

Up to £80,000 + Bonus + Private Healthcare

We are looking to recruit a Head of Procurement to work for the UKs leading Engineering and Support Services organisation based from regional headquarters in Staverton, Gloucestershire.

About the role

The organisation are the largest operator of Air Ambulance aircraft in the UK. They also provide services to police, offshore windfarms and the oil and gas industry. They operate a mixed fleet of light twin helicopters custom designed to perform specific and specialised tasks. It operates from 22 bases around the UK and in Ireland.

The Head of Procurement for UK Onshore will be responsible for ensuring all third party spend (directs and indirects) is managed in the most effective and efficient manner. The role will work closely with the sector Procurement & Supply Chain Category teams to implement Aviation related framework agreements and ensure the Operating company requirements are represented as these deals are being put in place. Similarly, the role is expected to implement wider group category deals and act as a stakeholder during any sourcing activity led by Group Category leads.

Main duties will include:

  • Accountable for adoption of category management principles in the sourcing, selection and management of suppliers
  • Lead for the Sector and manage any categories allocated by the Aviation Category HoP
  • Manage and monitor overall functional performance
  • Supporting sector OEM management agenda and establishing effective supplier performance and contract management.
  • Identify and ensure execution of savings opportunities from 3rd party expenditure
  • Ensure Group and Sector procurement arrangements and contracts are used and that they operate effectively, delivering benefit to the business.
  • Leading negotiations on local contracts.
  • Act as functional lead and/or assure availability of functional support for local bids as well as support major bids as required by the central Aviation Procurement team.
  • Develop and lead a small team of direct reports as well as create a locally networked function, collaborating with supply chain colleagues, other subject matter experts as well as working across our Design & Completions business.
  • Systems are being operated and implemented in accordance with group policy and procedure and business improvement opportunities are identified and implemented.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting and visibility of the functions and operational performance.
  • Manage onshore fleet, liaising with central Aviaition team as required.

About you:

We are looking for a candidate who is able to display the following skills and experience.

  • Application of Category management principles to contracting approaches
  • Performance management of suppliers
  • Supplier Relationship Management
  • Commercial management of contracts.
  • Development and management of commercial contracts including SLA's
  • Development and management of International supply chains
  • Highly developed Negotiation skills capable of employing a number of styles
  • Financial acumen and experience of financial models
  • Change Management and Continuous improvement, including the implementation of processes and systems
  • MCIPs Qualified or working towards
  • Knowledge of Aviation sector and contract requirements (desirable)
  • Working as procurement representative in a Bid / BD environment (desirable)
  • Working in low leverage environments such as with OEMs (desirable)
  • Understanding of working with supply chain and material planning functions (desirable)
  • Minimum of degree level (desirable)
  • Excellent people management skills with ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Driving a procurement strategy through a structured process
  • Utilisation of e.Procurement technologies / procurement systems
  • Strong commercial capability with different contract types and flow downs requirements.
