Group Head of Technical Excellence - Engineering Capability

A Leading Science and Engineering Organisation are recruiting for a Group Head of Technical Excellence Engineering Capability who will be accountable for leadership of their engineering and technical capability, and, as part of the Technical Excellence function, setting the highest standards for engineering, science and technology across the business.

The Role

The Group Head of Technical Excellence Engineering Capability is accountable for maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of engineering and technical principles, and developing the appropriate behaviours in technical teams at all levels to ensure right first time delivery.

As a pan-business role, the Group Head of Technical Excellence Engineering Capability is responsible for scheduling and coordinating relevant activities across all businesses and sites.

Main Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain optimal procedures for engineering and technical delivery and lead the development and embedding of relevant disruptive technical principles and process across the company.
  • Leading innovative approaches in liaison with external industry groups and partner organisations to develop collaborative engineering capability solutions.
  • Ensure a suitable framework (process and systems) exists to ensure engineering and technical delivery is seen as industry-leading, and delivers a right first time solution that delights customers
  • Lead and develop the appropriate behaviours and culture to provide excellent technical delivery and operations.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance on engineering and technical matters to leadership roles, including support of significant strategic bids and projects.
  • Establish and monitor suitable KPIs and performance measures across the businesses and functions to monitor and improve performance of engineering and technical capability
  • Working collaboratively with the Chief Technology Officer, define and deliver an engineering and technical capability strategy, identifying risks, improvement areas and contributing to the positive development of engineering and technical capability;
  • Lead the establishment of an engineering and technical competency framework applicable both within the direct Technical Excellence team
  • Lead relevant continuous improvement activities in line with the Technical Excellence strategy

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Significant experience of team and business leadership gained from practical working in this domain
  • An excellent understanding of Engineering principles and practices, and a track record of practically applying this knowledge to ensure efficient and effective compliance and safety in delivery
  • Able to demonstrate experience of leading by example with a range of leadership styles
  • Able to demonstrate strong experience of functional leadership, inspiring and managing quality performance across a diverse and complex organisation
  • A proven ability to collaborate positively both internally or a business and eternally (with customers, regulators and partners) to deliver exceptional performance
  • Effective and influential communicator at multiple levels, able to engage with detail or summarise as required by the recipient
  • Significant experience of functionally managing engineering and technical delivery in a diverse and complex organisation
