Graduate Safety Engineer - Plymouth

An FTSE 100 company is currently recruiting for a Graduate Safety Engineer to take on a permanent position ASAP. The company is highly regarded for its employee recognition and vital position in today's market place. You will be a driven individual who is looking to work in a fast paced environment with supportive team in a diverse and challenging environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading FTSE 100 company providing essential through-life support to the Royal Navy's Surface Fleet and Submarine Fleet. As part of this crucial team you will work to ensure that the facilities meet both the customer needs, and the standards of regulators. The team are often out on site using their Science and Engineering knowledge to understand how proposed and on-going work could affect the design intent of plant. It is the team's role to control the safety case which permits these changes to be made to their nuclear site, therefore attention to detail and a questioning attitude are valued attributes. The role itself would be a good opportunity for an individual with a solid engineering background to move into the Safety space.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows -

  • Liaise with Design and Technical Authorities to understand technical detail and provide customer guidance
  • Manage and implement changes to safety cases
  • Able to solve complex and diverse problems without compromising safety to the submarine programme
  • Good interpersonal skills to manage our stakeholders and help them to deliver changes on the ground
  • Able to think logically gaining information from other teams and then suggesting solutions
  • Take ownership of the delivery of crucial path activities to support the submarine programme
  • Prioritise workload to ensure programme deadlines are met

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience -

  • Familiarity with the regulation of an operational facility, preferably nuclear.
  • Understanding of compliance against a nuclear safety case (desirable)
  • Management of technical changes to an operational facility - long term / temporary and physical / process (desirable)
  • Team work experience
  • Previous exposure to submarine upgrades and refits (desirable)
  • Degree qualified in relevant discipline e.g. Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM)
  • Minimum 2 years industry experience (desirable)
