Our market leading client requires 4 Flight Physicists to work on site at Boscombe Down.

Outline of duties:

  • Evaluation of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft performance and flying qualities (P&FQ) in order to provide airworthiness advice in the form of operating limitations and procedures.
  • Conducting independent technical evaluation of the P&FQ aspects of Design Organisation originated safety cases for the embodiment of modifications on to in-service UK combat aircraft.
  • Design and development of fixed and rotary wing aircraft P&FQ training modules as part of a project to modernise the Test Aircrew Training capabilities.
  • Working within a delivery team of both civil and military personnel, you may be required to mentor less experienced staff in the conduct of technical evaluations.

Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience of:

  • The evaluation of fixed wing and/or rotary wing flight dynamics, handling qualities and performance.
  • The independent review of qualification evidence against design and test requirements, and Design Organisation clearance documentation for modern Flight Control Systems.
  • Ground and flight test techniques used to assess aircraft P&FQ in order to establish the aircraft aerodynamic characteristics and role related capabilities.
  • Hazard evaluation and risk based assessment techniques.
  • Civil and/or military certification requirements and processes.

Must have:

  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Logical and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to make sound technical and engineering judgements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ideally would have:

  • Platform and Flight Control System knowledge of UK aircraft (including current combat aircraft).
  • Knowledge of Ship Air integration evaluation techniques.
