Network Security Engineer / Firewall Engineer

£35,000 + £40,000 + Extensive Benefits Package

Luton, Bedfordshire - Office Based - Monday to Friday 9am till 5:30pm

Revered privately owned networks solutions and services provider are seeking a Network Security / Firewall Engineer with an excellent service ethic and customer focus.

This established organisation offers their clientele a world class remote Firewall and Security service requiring dedicated engineers to implement changes to their environment which comprises Cisco and Checkpoint Firewalls.

The individuals providing the Firewall Function will be:

  • Highly competent with switching using NXOS and be comfortable with VDC's and vPC's which are deployed within the core infrastructure.
  • The datacenter also features firewalling between VDC's (core), external for partners and vendors and three tiered stacks (Cisco ASA, CheckPoint, Cisco ASA) for the webhosting environment.
  • The individuals providing the Firewall Function will also need to have a good knowledge of the tools used within the network, such as CMC for Riverbed, CSM for Cisco ASA, Voyager and CheckPoint Manager for CheckPoint,
  • CPI for WiFi, ISE for NAC and future deployment of technology, such as TrustSec, RSA tools, SolarWinds Orion, Cisco ACS and Infoblox etc.
  • A strong knowledge of WireShark is also required.

Branch infrastructure comprises Cisco Catalyst 4K's and 3750-X switches. The individuals providing the Firewall service should have a strong knowledge of Cisco IOS and also RiOS for the Riverbed Steelheads located in both the branch and the datacenter.

  • The Security & Firewall Engineer will dial into the daily WebEx to provide and receive status updates regarding their changes.
  • To monitor and maintain tickets which have been assigned to this queue and ensure they adhere to lead times and SLAs.
  • If lead times or SLA are to breach; notify the Customer's Network Engineering for consultation/awareness.
  • Reassign incorrectly assigned tickets and if issues arise liaise with the Customer's Network engineering team for guidance.
  • Raise corresponding ServiceNow tickets for third party changes for providers including Firewall requests which are received via email and when instructed by the customers Network Engineers to facilitate project work.
  • Ensure ServiceNow tickets are properly documented and adhere to the Customer's procedures and naming conventions.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to determine Change ticket relevance.
  • If a change ticket is pending approval, to actively engage outstanding stakeholders for approvals.
  • In the event of issues escalate to the Customer's Network Engineering team.
  • Assist in deploying patches and maintaining the patching schedule. Vulnerability management will be performed by the client who will advise on what requires patching and to which OS.
  • Proactively check devices to ensure they are adhering to network standards and performing as expected
