My client, a well-known energy company based in Coventry, is currently seeking a Financial Accountant to join their busy finance team on a 6-month interim contract.
You should ideally immediately available or on a maximum of 2 week's notice and be able to work via your own limited company or an umbrella company. You must have the right to work in the UK currently and for the duration of the contract. Successful candidates will undergo a DBS check upon acceptance of any offer, which must be fully completed ahead of starting the role.

The Role

You will support the UK based accounting department and external shared service centre (SSC) based in eastern Europe. You'll work to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of financial statements. In addition, you'll be developing strong stakeholder relationships to ensure that all accounting practices are fit for purpose. Furthermore, you'll be liaising with external parties and stakeholders, including external auditors.

This role includes production of statutory accounts for a number of legal entities and you'll ensure that these statutory reports and financial statements are technically correct and in accordance with local accounting practices and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). You'll also ensure the financial statements comply with the relevant UK tax requirements through liaising with the internal Tax team.
There is also an opportunity to shape the future of accounting & reporting across the business, driving continuous improvement and creating & embedding an effective accounting framework.

Key Responsibilities

· Responsible for leading on the various day to day elements of company accounting and supporting others in the team relating to other UK businesses
· Interact regularly with the UK businesses and shared service centre
· Responsible for the timely and accurate production of financial statements including the general ledger accounting as well as reviewing data prepared by the SSC on the SAP system. This is for monthly, quarterly and annual positions
· Ensure that information provided by the businesses is validated and challenged prior to being processed by the SSC
· Production of the statutory accounts including disclosures for certain legal entities with support from the other team members
· Ensure that the financial statements are technically correct and in accordance with the company's accounting manual & IFRS
· Support the implementation of process improvements, ensuring that they remain effective and efficient
· Ensure that the accounting ledgers are compliant with UK tax requirements (Corporation tax, VAT, PAYE etc)
· Provide technical accounting advice to the respective businesses
· Liaise with internal and external Auditors to fully support audits

Key Skills and Experience

· A degree or equivalent level qualification
· Fully qualified Accountant - CIMA, ACCA, ACA
· Practical post-qualification experience
· Good technical accounting skills
· Excellent numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data
· Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
· Proactive approach to problem solving
· Commercial awareness
· A desire for continuous improvement
· IT literate with strong Excel skills and experience of SAP. Vixen accounting system experience is desirable
· Prior experience within the Energy or Utilities industries is desirable
