My client, a large well-known energy company based in Coventry, is currently seeking a Financial Accountant to join them on a 6-month contract. You should ideally be immediately available or on a maximum of 2 week's notice and be able to work via your own limited company or an umbrella company. Due to the nature of this role a DBS check maybe required.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of our financial statements
  • Provide technical accounting advice and develop strong stakeholder relationships to ensure that all accounting practices are fit for purpose
  • Liaising with external parties and stakeholders, including our external auditors
  • Accountable for the production of statutory accounts for a number of legal entities whilst ensuring that these statutory reports and financial statements are technically correct and in accordance with internal accounting practices and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Ensuring financial statements comply with the relevant UK tax requirements through liaising with our internal Tax team
  • Support the implementation of process improvements, ensuring that they remain effective and efficient
  • Ensure that the accounting ledgers are compliant with UK tax requirements (Corporation tax, VAT, PAYE etc)
  • Liaise with Internal Audit and PricewaterhouseCoopers and the business to fully support audits
  • The role will be interacting regularly with the businesses in the UK and shared service centre

Key skills and experience

  • Fully qualified accountant with 2-3 years post-qual experience.
  • Good technical accounting skills, including strong IFRS experience
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Flexibility to work to tight timescales
  • A desire for continuous improvement
  • Strong systems skills including experience of SAP and Advanced Excel
