About the role

Here at Babcock we are currently recruiting a finance analyst for a new role working with our aviation business unit which is based at our regional headquarters in Portsmouth.

Our Aviation sector delivers critical services in the defence and aerial emergency services markets. In defence we train pilots and manage and maintain fleets of fixed and rotary wing aircraft in the UK and France. In Aerial Emergency Services we apply technology to deliver aerial emergency medical services, aerial firefighting and search and rescue.

Reporting to the Business Unit Head of Finance, to provide analytical and project support to the Business Unit, key stakeholders and Board members. This role includes regular Business Unit tasks as well as ad hoc analysis, research and presentation of finance data. This role will work closely with the Business Unit finance team as well as operations, central finance and other functional teams.

Main Accountabilities:

To provide comprehensive analytical and statistical analysis in support of business performance and decision support. Using either data that is currently available and/or enabling the collection of new data that is required, the job holder is to:

  • Create a process and suite of reports that use data available to help management, customers and suppliers make better informed decisions
  • Analyse and produce metrics around internal performance of contracts across a number of set performance indicators
  • Research, analyse and produce data that highlights trends and patterns in performance, costs and behaviour
  • To be innovative and develop new and sound concepts and be able to develop them into repeatable processes/reports
  • To support the Strategic Planning Process and the production of any finance slide packs, analysis or supplementary information required.
  • To provide and manage the review process and information required for budget and forecast presentations.
  • Production of dashboards, visualisation of performance

What do I need to do the role?

  • Recognised professional qualification CIMA or equivalent
  • Advanced Excel Skills, including pivot table manipulation, graphs and charts, joining multiple data sets
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative and compelling data visualisations that can be used in programmes such as MS PowerPoint/Power BI
  • Experience in working with, communicating and reporting to senior level stakeholders
