I am recruiting a Fabrication & Welding Manufacturing Engineer to join a Production Team working within the Defence sector on behalf of a global market leading engineering company that undertakes critical engineering work worldwide.

If you are an experienced Fabrication Engineer, this is a perfect opportunity for you to step away from the tools and develop into a key member of the Production Team. You will create detailed manufacturing processes for fabrications up to 15 tonnes of complex construction and high integrity. The projects undertaken will principally be in relation to design and creation of fabrications for defence equipment on submarines. Due to the nature of the projects, the role will require a high level of fabrication expertise as well as a good understanding of welding and complex structures.

Main purpose of role:

  • Creation of detailed manufacturing processes for fabrications up to 15 tonnes of complex construction and high integrity.
  • Estimating using 2D models and 3D drawings.
  • Preparation of material cutting lists.
  • Creating material requisitions and sub-contract requisitions.
  • Interface with Production Shops, suppliers and customers.
  • Responsibility for tooling and fixture requirements.
  • Design for Manufacture.

Ideal requirements:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship or equivalent in Fabrication Engineering.
  • High level of fabrication expertise.
  • Proven experience of working with large, complex high integrity structures.
  • Manufacturing Engineer role - Taking the detailed design drawings, creating manufacture drawings, creating manufacture routings, shop orders, requisitioning materials, estimating, design for manufacture, customer liaison (internal stakeholders).
  • Some awareness or machining knowledge.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
