Test Environment Manager

This specific role is to provide a Test Environments manager to continue to embed and support the Test capability and to support the transition.

Willl create and manage the pan-project E2E Test Environment plan that incorporates appropriate MSP and authority environments including where appropriate, the connections to the Test VPN. This will include overall governance, scheduling, prioritisation and/or escalation of Environment conflicts.

  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders: project management, TCT, and Suppliers of the VPN and constituent federated environments.
  • Focus on developing good processes.
  • Scheduling accuracy with the ability to keep a constantly shifting test environment calendar up to date.
  • Ability to estimate work effort required to bring test environments to readiness.
  • Focus on organization and communication over technology - technology is important for a test environment manager, but communication is the critical skill.
  • work upward/outwards with the enterprise architecture team to ensure that the growth and management of the test environments keeps pace with current architectural thinking and with the R&D team/live support to ensure the path to live is protected
  • Provide environment governance including configuration, change, capacity and availability management, define and operate an environment management process that includes prioritisation, conflict/contention resolution and escalation as appropriate.
  • Initiate remedial actions resulting from, Test metrics as appropriate and agreed with the Authority.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in managing test environments efficiently and resolving conflicts when resources are required by more than one team
  • Service management experience to include: configuration management, capacity management, availability management, conformance
  • Able to develop and use various methods of presenting test environment metrics and measures across disparate portfolios of work, showing the use and effectiveness of the environments (rather than the just the allocation of the environments)
  • Experience of delivering in a formal process framework.
  • Strong influencing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers

  • ISEB Service Management
  • Conflict Resolution when there are disputes about use of environments when work overruns
  • Defence/Public Sector knowledge
