Electronics Engineer - Kyle of Lochalsh

A Leading Science and Engineering company, based at the BUTEC site, requires an Electronics Engineer who will be required to support the engineers at the Scotland sites including Rosneath, Loch Goil and the Island of Rona.

You will be part of a small team responsible for the maintenance and operation of electronic equipment. You will be responsible for the operation and repair (sometimes to component level) of electronic systems used for the tracking and measurement of radiated noise from underwater vehicles.

You will also be required to adhere to local multi-skill arrangements including sea-going work and Trials activities.


  • Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted safely and with adequate resources.
  • Support the repair, maintenance and operation of a range of electronic equipment and systems associated with noise analysis, including the Range Tracking System, GPS, Radar and marine radios.
  • Report any defect or resource issue that affects equipment availability, in good time.
  • Maintain personal record of competence against an agreed framework.
  • Optimise range support equipment availability with well-planned, timely maintenance and repair routines.

Requirements and Experience

  • Minimum of HND or equivalent in electronics/electrical Engineering
  • Clean, full UK driving licence.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment/systems including communications, DGPS, and Radar.
  • Awareness of health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Team player and excellent communication skills.

There is training provided for the areas worked, specific systems and equipments. The successful candidate will be willing to work in rough and harsh conditions both on land and at sea.
