Devonport, in Plymouth, supports the Royal Navy's current surface ship and submarine fleets.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines and various warships. It will also become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme, including Astute and Dreadnought class.

As such, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Commissioning Engineer.

The primary purpose of these roles is to undertake and oversee the commissioning of newly supplied and modified nuclear facilities, plant, systems and equipment that will be utilised to defuel Swiftsure and Trafalgar class Submarines within the Submarine Refitting Complex.

  • You will be a requirement to work at heights and undergo harness training.
  • You will also be required to work in radiologically controlled areas, so you must be radiologically trained or prepared to undergo this training.
  • Familiarity with the Variable Speed Drive and Programmable Logic Controller technologies would be desirable.

You will be responsible to safely manage, direct and co-ordinate a small mutli-disciplined team of Commissioning Engineers undertaking commissioning on a wide variety of electro mechanical plant that includes but is not limited to:

  • High integrity goliath crane
  • Travel and alignment system
  • M&E Building services including HVAC
  • Process Plant
  • Ideally you will be educated to BTEC level 4 or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and have significant, demonstrable commissioning experience preferably gained within a nuclear environment.
  • Crane commissioning experience is also desirable.
