EHS Specialist

This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of environmental, health and safety and related programs within the EMEA region at the assigned location(s) and for facilitating a collaborative approach to implementing such programs with site management.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures safe practices and regulatory compliance in all assigned facilities. Leads by example and enforces good safety practices. Responds and provides follow-up to health, safety, and environmental issues to site management.
  • Ensures that all licensing, permitting, or other environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved. Works with site management to maintain compliance.
  • Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facilities on a regular basis. Maintains and monitors waste manifest systems. Completes reporting forms regarding hazardous waste for all required regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and conducts employee health and safety training programs. Develops and implements refresher training for various health and safety topics as required by the regulations.
  • Conducts regular workplace assessments of assigned facilities and conducts employee health hazard exposure monitoring to ensure compliance. Makes recommendations to site management based on results.
  • Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner. Makes recommendations to site management on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance with these regulations.
  • Develops and updates all health and safety related mandated procedures for assigned facilities. In addition, ensures that procedures meet federal, state, and local requirements
  • Works through the corporate office to supply information on work-related injury/illness investigation. Oversees all ergonomic related issues and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Additional duties may include leading Health & Safety committees, act as Radiation Safety Officer, maintain controlled substance program, evaluate/maintain all safety equipment, coordinate fire drills and/or work with assigned site on regulatory inspections or audits

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Degree in the health/safety/environmental sciences or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH Certification is preferred.
  • 2-4 years' experience in environmental, health and safety.
  • Experience in a laboratory, clinic, pharma, and/or health care setting is essential
  • Familiarity with Ireland EHS regulations is required
  • Knowledge of laboratory and hazardous waste regulations to include hazardous chemical/biohazard storage and disposal regulations.
  • Knowledge of air monitoring strategies.
  • Knowledge of ergonomics and how to conduct ergonomic evaluations.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good judgement and business acumen
  • Good computer skills.
  • Able to travel to other countries (Belgium) to perform work as requested
